SambaLá Samba
offers professional Brazilian shows to the Southern California
area. The goal of our organization is to educate and entertain
the local and surrounding communities about the Brazilian culture
through dance, music, costume, and Carnaval.
Since its inception
in March of 1994, SambaLá has established itself as one
of the largest samba schools in the country, as well as a weekly
Brazilian cultural center, social club, and night club. Between
100 and 200 Brazilians, Americans, and other nationalities from
all over Southern California are found in various venues enjoying
its unique "Brazilian" atmosphere. Classes are offered
in samba, lambada, percussion, and Portuguese making SambaLá
a truly "participatory" experience.
During its first
five years of existence, SambaLá has attracted many talented
dancers, musicians, and costume makers that have become recognized
around the Southern California area for their beautiful shows
and professionalism. SambaLá has appeared on TV, participated
in parades, and have provided entertainment in such diverse places
as Seoul Korea, the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas, the Ford Amphitheater
in Hollywood, Planet Hollywood, the San Diego Zoo, the Dorthy
Chandler Pavillion, and even a McDonald's commericial. SambaLá
is also the founder and director of the Long Beach Carnaval the
International Federation of Sambistas, and Rio 2001 where all
the sambistas from around the world will converge on Rio in the
year 2001
We hope to bring
a warm tropical smile to your heart and the rhythm of samba to
your feet. But be warned: once you've been touched by Brazil and
its people, you are touched for life!
